Popular Online Newspaper Columnist Bill O'Reilly

If you have ever seen the "The O'Reilly Factor" on the Fox News Channel, you know what a sharp guy Bill O'Reilly is. What you may not know is that he started his career as a reporter writing newspaper and magazine columns. His story is a true inspiration for writing hopefuls everywhere.

O'Reilly's education

Bill O'Reilly built his career from humble beginnings as a History major at Marist College. His commitment to education was evident as he then went on to earn two Master's degrees, one in broadcast journalism from Boston University and one in public administration from Harvard's renowned Kennedy School of Government. He would later put his training to good use as an author and news columnist with several print and online media outlets.

Journalism--the early years

O'Reilly began his journalism and broadcasting career with media organizations in Scranton, Pennsylvania and then continued in Dallas, Denver, Boston and Portland, Oregon as a local news reporter/anchor. It was at this point he began paving the way for his hit news program "The Factor." After a brief stint with the news program "Inside Edition," O'Reilly would soon get his call to host his own show.

Media superstar

Bill currently writes columns for online news outlet Fox.com. The topics he features on his television and radio programs typically fuel his online columns. He also has three nonfiction books to his credit--The O'Reilly Factor, The No Spin Zone, and Who's Looking Out for You. His common man persona taking on intellectual elites has garnered him a loyal following of readers, listeners, and viewers.
