Vermont Weather and Climate
The Vermont Climate
Vermont may experience the greatest variety in weather and climate of all the New England states, or at least some of the widest temperature differences. Abundant snowfall is guaranteed. If winter is one of your favorite seasons then Vermont should definitely be a target for your tourism and travel plans. Summers are short and sweet, with mild, pleasant days and cool evenings, but the winters are what really make Vermont shine.
Autumn Gold
From the state capital of Montpelier to the largest city, Burlington, Vermont guarantees a lightshow of the deepening red and gold of autumn leaves from September to early November. The autumn months bring cool days with highs in the mid 50's, and the evening lows can drop below freezing. If you plan to travel or relocate to Vermont in winter, make sure and be prepared to bundle up.
Green Mountains, Silver Lakes
Vermont is a state of pleasant river valleys, lakes and swift streams, lowlands and highlands, and some of the best skiing in the northeast. The Green Mountains run down the center of the state with Lake Champlain in the west. The winter often brings temperatures below freezing and an annual snowfall average of 65 to 75 inches. In the higher elevations as much as 300 inches have been known to fall! All in all, Vermont's seasons and weather are very pleasant. Low humidity, with a steady progression from the short sweet summer to winter and back again, will make your stay in Vermont one of your most memorable.
