Dental Hygiene Schools

As the emphasis in dental care moves from dental treatment to prevention, the role of the dental hygienist has become increasingly valued and appreciated. Oral health education is, in essence, the principle responsibility of the dental hygienist. It is generally understood in this service sector that a dental hygiene degree is a thorough and comprehensive route by which to qualify. There is little doubt that by graduation, you will have acquired the high standard of skills and knowledge necessary to provide an optimum service for your client and for your employer.

All dental hygiene colleges and schools will instruct you in subjects that explore the areas in which your expertise will be in demand. Some of those areas of study are pathology and the transmission of disease, dental terminology and anatomy, radiology and pharmacology. You will learn how to examine teeth and gums, remove plaque and stains, apply preventative treatments and, in some states, the role has been expanded to include the administration of anesthetics and fillings, and the preparation of clinical and diagnostic tests for the dentist. Broad based prerequisite study subjects at this level include sociology, chemistry, psychology and biology. .
