North Carolina is facing a shortage of healthcare professionals over the next few years and this is likely to continue for some time.  In 2002 there were some 181,000 healthcare practitioners and technicians employed in the healthcare industry according to the US Bureau of Labor, at an average salary of $52,000.  These staff shortages are going to be caused by the increase in the aging population, causing many professionals to retire during the next ten years, and also causing an increase in the demand for healthcare services.  After the age of 55, many healthcare professionals move out of full-time employment and the numbers doing this are causing increasing concern.

Healthcare degree programs are the best way to make sure that the health service in this State is provided with the staff they need to be able to deliver good healthcare.  You can become a part of the professions that do most to improve the quality of our lives by taking a degree in one of the healthcare specialisms.  Programs provide entry into careers as nurses, doctors, dentists, laboratory technicians of all kinds, medical and dental assistants, physiotherapists and other areas of therapy, and healthcare administrators.  A degree is necessary for all of these careers; explore the programs available.
