There are 13 colleges and universities in the state of Kansas offering degrees in the legal profession. The Kansas Bar Association was originally founded as a voluntary association with goals of advancing the legal skills of lawyers and encouraging public understanding of the law. The Kansas Bar today is comprised of over 6,000 dedicated legal professionals including over 5,900 practicing attorneys as well as over 200 law students and 100 legal assistants. In 2001, the Supreme Court of Kansas established the Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program, a statewide network of volunteer legal professional committed to helping other legal professionals in need, promoting a network of peer support among legal professionals in Kansas.
