If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.
There are 13 colleges and universities in the state of Kentucky offering degrees in the legal profession. The Kentucky Bar Association is an independent agency of the Supreme Court of Kentucky. This position, confirmed in a landmark separation of powers case in Kentucky, means that the Kentucky Bar Association is not accountable to Kentucky’s legislative or executive branches, but is an independent agency whose authority it is to regulate the legal profession in Kentucky. The purpose of such an organization is to maintain discipline of legal professionals in the state as well as initiate and supervise the means to insure a continuous high standard of professional competency.
