If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.

There are 18 colleges and universities in the state of Maryland offering degrees in the legal profession. The Maryland State Bar Association is located in the historic city of Baltimore and represents a continuation of serving the needs of the communities of Maryland. In 1965 the MSBA set up a non-profit, charitable foundation organized to foster and maintain the honor of the legal profession and to promote the study of law and research and the continuing education of legal professionals. The Maine State Bar Association also established The People’s Pro Bono Action Center in 1990 in cooperation with the Maryland Legal Services Corporation and the Court Appeals of Maryland to ensure equal access to justice to those who can’t afford it. This is done through matching volunteer legal professionals with legal services organizations dedicated to serving those unable to afford representation.
