If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.
There are 34 colleges and universities in the state of Michigan offering degrees in the legal profession. The State Bar of Michigan is set up to promote the improvements of the administration of justice in the state of Michigan and in improving the relations between legal professionals and the public, as well as promoting interest in the legal profession in Michigan. The Access to Justice Program is one of several justice initiatives of the legal professionals in Michigan and is set up to assure that a strong civil legal system is available to everyone despite low-income or lack of ability to afford legal representation. This program encourages legal professionals to volunteer legal services by working with non-profit organizations throughout the state of Michigan to provide legal services to the poor.
