If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.
The state of Montana has few colleges that offer degrees in the legal profession, but has a building membership in its state bar association leading the legal profession in its effort to best serve the public of Montana. There are several foundations and programs set up in Montana to ensure the competency of legal professionals as well as the protection of both the legal profession as well as the public that it serves. These include the Montana Justice Foundation, The Lawyers Fund for Client Protection, set up to make monetary awards to clients in those cases in which a lawyer betrays a client’s trust or misappropriates client’s funds, and the Montana Legal Services Association, a federally funded non-profit corporation set up to provide legal assistance to low-income clients with civil problems.
