If you are seeking a career in the legal profession, there are many different law colleges and legal degree programs in the United States to choose from. Programs vary in length and requirements and are designed to best fit your goals and what you are seeking in a legal education. Degrees offered in most states include a Juris Doctor which will enable you to become a licensed attorney and to develop the widest range of career opportunities within the legal professions; an A.A.S, B.S. degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies which will prepare you for employment in the legal profession by providing you with basic legal skills and knowledge of the legal work environment and how the legal field works; and varying degrees in Criminal Justice which will give you a broad legal foundation and prepare you for careers in the areas of law enforcement, courts, corrections and security.
There are 20 colleges and universities in the state of New Jersey offering degrees in the legal profession. The New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law is a cooperative venture unique to New Jersey and includes the New Jersey State Bar Association, the state and federal judiciary and New Jersey’s state law schools. The Commission was formed to strengthen the traditional values of the legal profession and its sense of responsibility and public purpose that have made it such a distinguished profession. It is also designed to increase public respect for the legal system and laws of New Jersey. Involved in the Commission are programs for legal professionals as well as law students such as educational seminars and other resources.
