Web Design Schools and Education

Web designers create pages for websites. Their job is to mastermind the look and feel of the site and make sure that it fulfils the functions for which it was set up.

If you are looking for a career in this field you must be expert in a number of different computer programs. HTML is a basic requirement since it is the language used for creating web pages, but you will also need to know programs such as PhotoShop, Illustrator and ImageReady, which are used for making images and animated graphics. You should also be able to use specific web design programs such as Microsoft Front Page ad Macromedia Dreamweaver and have a firm grasp of techniques such as the use of Cascading Style Sheets (a mechanism for adding fonts, colors and spacing to web documents).

A degree in a subject such as Information Technology, with a focus on web design, can teach you what you need to know, but you could also investigate courses offered by private or nonprofit computer-education schools, online education, or your local college. If you are looking to get into the field as quickly as possible this might be of benefit to you, particularly since the Web is evolving so quickly and within the industry itself might well be the place to gain the most relevant and up-to-date experience.
