Webmaster Degrees and Education

As a Webmaster it is your job to decide what people see and interact with when they come to a site, the graphics and animation, the colors, fonts and other visual elements that make the site appealing.

To make a successful career in this field you must have a thorough knowledge and experience of the computer programs that are commonly used; these include HTML and JavaScript (the main computer languages used for the creation of a site) Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator to manipulate graphics and images, plus Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver for page layout.

Many universities now offer Computer Science or Information Technology degrees that offer specializations in site architecture and other Web design-related fields and which will enable you to learn the essential skills you will need. In addition, given the underlying artistic nature or the job, you may find that some formal education in the visual arts or graphic design will be looked on favorably by employers, especially if you are also show some capability in the necessary design software. Ultimately, however, the fast-changing nature of the Web means that you will never stop learning and the only way to ensure success is to keep up-to-date with the latest developments throughout your career.
