Online Technical Schools and Colleges

Online technical schools and colleges give you the chance to advance your career by earning a degree or completing a certification program.

The links on this page take you to online schools and physical campuses that offer certifications, diplomas, associate's, bachelor's, and master's programs.

A certification program gives you proficiency in a set of technologies. Once you've completed the program, you'll take a test to get the certificate. For example, an A+ certificate means you have basic skills as a computer technician and an MCP certificate means you have the skills to implement a Microsoft technology in an organization. Some certificates, like the A+, are suitable for entry-level positions and some, like the MCP, are intended for professionals wishing to add to their skill-set.

A diploma program gives you skills in a specific area, such as web design or PC network administration. An associate's program gives you skills in a broader area, such as network engineering or network and computer technology. Both programs can get you entry-level positions.

A bachelor's program, which usually takes longer to complete than an associate's degree, will introduce you to the theory behind the technology. Examples of bachelor's programs include Computer Science and Health Service Administration. Many companies require employees to have bachelor's degrees.

A master's program, such as an MBA/Computer Information Systems program, will often emphasize theory and research and will make you competitive for managerial positions
