This little Cascarone is one of the important things of Fiesta in San Antonio and I decided that since there are others out there grading movies with stars, jalapenos, and other more common things...I'd introduce my symbol as the real way to grade movie's I've seen...the cascarone!

Gladiator
[R]

Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix and Richard Harris

The "other" epic of the summer, Gladiator shines brightly as THE movie of the year! Russell Crowe (L.A. Story) was simply awesome in his role of Maximus, the Roman General. Just back from battles that brought peace to the Empire for the first time in the reign of Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), Maximus is thwarted from succeeding the ailing Aurelius by the Emperor's son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Killed by his own son, Aurelius is mourned as having been slain by his enemies. Maximus leaves Rome thinking he can retire to his home in the hills with his wife and son. He is captured by the new Emperor's goons...and, after serving many months as a Gladiator for the entertainment of others, he returns to Rome as the most heralded Gladiator...ever.

Well... you can see where this is going and how it gets there is via some superb fight scenes with men and lions. While there is lots of gore and blood in this movie...the producers successfully veil it behind fancy camera work and quick snippets of the actual killings. Maximus has his day in the ring and even though he doesn't survive...his point and goal is reached. The ending was a bit surprising...but what a great movie this is.

Go see this movie...without fail !!!!!
