This little is one of the important things of Fiesta in San Antonio and I decided that since there are others out there grading movies with stars, jalapenos, and other more common things...I'd introduce my symbol as the real way to grade movie's I've seen...the cascarone!
Antonio Banderas, Woody Harrelson, Lolita Davidovich
One can't help compare this movie to White Men Can't Jump as it shares the odd pairing of two actors, in my opinion, that are going in opposite directions. No, more like one actor that is stagnant...Harrelson, and another truly great actor...in this case, Banderas. I guess Harrelson is popular in Hollywood, thereby inciting others to want to work with him. To this movie buff, he's a big zero. Oh, well...about the movie...Play It to the Bone delves into the world of professional boxing as two aging has-beens are called upon to be last minute substitutes in a Mike Tyson Vegas fight card. The movie is actually how these two comrades deal with their friendship suddenly pitting them against each other.
In a strange, almost patronizing way to have a romantic interest in this 'guy flick'...Lolita Davidovich plays the ex of...get this...both Banderas and Harrelson. Being down and out, they enlist her to drive them to Vegas to make this last payday of a fight. She comes off as more of a fill-in character rather than a star. I guess all the really attractive women were busy when they cast Ms. Davidovich. Oh, this is a good time to mention the films only other female interest. While en route to Vegas, our players pick up an abandoned nymph named Lia (Lucy Alexis Liu), whom I found refreshing and quite fetching! (We Texan's say that alot....it means.....woohoo <smile>)
Now, the film really lost me when they literally chronicled every single round of the fight between Harrelson and Banderas. We're talking...brutal and very graphic. This made Rocky seem like a walk in the park. Unnecessary and boring.
I wasn't sorry I saw this film, but you might be. Wait and rent it. You'll have more money for popcorn at home.
