This little is one of the important things of Fiesta in San Antonio and I decided that since there are others out there grading movies with stars, jalapenos, and other more common things...I'd introduce my symbol as the real way to grade movie's I've seen...the cascarone!
As much as I wanted this movie to work, and it does for me, I don't see it as a movie many will find palatable. It simply is too difficult to follow for the average laid back movie viewer. The slanguage used by the acting Brits made it almost unintelligible at times. The pace is fast and furious. Wait...lest you think I'm panning this movie, think again. I loved it! Brad Pitt shows me he's capable of yet another genre, and that's comedy. Ok...I'll attempt to tell you a bit about this movie because I doubt that 1. you'll be able to find it still showing and 2. I doubt it will appeal to those of you looking for a typical Brad Pitt movie.
Boxing promoters Turkish and Tommy (whose real names I won't even mention because you probably haven't heard of them) plan to strike it rich with their latest find, Mickey (Pitt). Mickey is a bold, brash Irish gypsy.....who fights bare knuckle. Due to markers owed to a crime don, Turkish asks Mickey to take a dive so he can be square with the don. Everyone would win...however, Mickey just doesn't have it in him to take such a licking and the plan backfires. There are other criminal circumstances that further confuse this way too complicated for it's own good flick...like Benicio Del Toro as Franky Four Fingers who is trying to smuggle a stolen diamond back to the states and his own Jewish crime boss. Two simple schemes you say.....NOT. How these two intertwine is why you should go see this movie. Trust me, after you get past the hard British dialect, you'll not only find this movie pretty good, but hilariously funny.
It's my kind of movie...but I've been known to like off the wall movies.
I gave it two cascarones simply because I enjoyed it so much. Try it! Rent it???
