Adopted on May 30, 1997.
House Concurrent Resolution No. 1053
A Concurrent Resolution proclaiming "The Sounds of the Southwest"
as the official western band of the State of Oklahoma;
and directing distribution.
WHEREAS, "The Sounds of the Southwest" is an Oklahoma-based band that specializes in western and western swing music; and
WHEREAS, "The Sounds of the Southwest" fills their shows with rich vocal harmonies, yodels and acoustic instrumentation and plays many favorites from the past including the songs of the Sons of the Pioneers, Patsy Cline and the Bob Wills Texas Playboys; and
WHEREAS, "The Sounds of the Southwest" has been voted Group of the Year by the Oklahoma Opry Association for two years in a row; and
WHEREAS, "The Sounds of the Southwest" performs extensively throughout the year with most of these performances for corporate or national associations; and
WHEREAS, performances by "The Sounds of the Southwest" include appearances at the National Association of Western Artists' Gala, Bob Wills Day at the State Capitol, National Cowboy Symposium, Ben Johnson Pro Celebrity Rodeo, Cherokee Strip Centennial Celebration and the Quartz Mountain Western and Western Swing Music Festival; and
WHEREAS, the members of "The Sounds of the Southwest" are Becky Keith who is the lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar, Matt Keith who sings vocals and plays the fiddle, Will McLin who is the lead guitarist and sings vocals, and Richard Sharp who sings vocals and plays bass fiddle; and
WHEREAS, "The Sounds of the Southwest" promotes Oklahoma through their performances.
Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 1st Session of the 46th Oklahoma Legislature, the Senate concurring therein:
THAT "The Sounds of the Southwest" is hereby proclaimed as the official western band of the State of Oklahoma.
THAT copies of this resolution be distributed to Becky Keith, Matt Keith, Will McLin, Richard Sharp and Jack Keith.
Adopted by the House of Representatives the 30th day of May, 1997.
Adopted by the Senate the 29th day of May, 1997.
