Adopted on March 8, 1963.
Old gold and blue were designated as the official state colors by the legislature on March 8, 1963

My only complaint about the whole thing is that fans have taken the time to e-mail me and tell me that the school colors are blue and gold.
West Virginia's school colors aren't blue and gold, they are GOLD and BLUE – a valuable lesson I learned from the late Jack Fleming years ago.
